We didn't set out to build another translation app. We set out to solve the missing meaning problem.
VocaTrans is developed by Nebula Labs Inc. For years we watched people use translation tools that were technically accurate — and emotionally empty. A sentence could be perfectly translated and still miss the point entirely.
So we built real-time AI interpretation instead: VocaTrans listens for complete thoughts and delivers natural translations without interrupting the speaker's flow.
The problem
Words are only part of the message.
Most translation tools treat language like a dictionary swap. But human communication doesn't work that way. The same phrase can mean completely different things depending on tone, stress, facial expression, and context.
When a customer says "that's fine" through a flat, clipped voice, the words say one thing — but the meaning is clearly another. Traditional translation misses that entirely. And when it does, trust breaks down.

Why meaning gets lost
Tone is the first thing translation leaves behind. Fragments are the second.
Translation has always focused on correctness: the right word, the right grammar, the right syntax. But emotion isn't carried by words alone. It's carried by pace, pitch, hesitation, emphasis, and breath.
The other failure is timing. Tools that rush to keep up translate a clause before they've heard the end of the sentence. "The reason we're meeting today" gets spoken on its own, and the rest arrives as an orphan. Accurate word by word — and impossible to follow.
A human interpreter never does this. They let a speaker land a complete thought, then deliver it as one natural sentence. That is the behaviour we set out to reproduce, and the reason VocaTrans waits.
How it works

Wait for the thought
A finished sentence is translated straight away. A pause of about a second does the same. If someone keeps talking, VocaTrans holds the thought and splits at a natural sentence boundary rather than cutting mid-clause.

Translate with context
The translation carries what has already been established in the room: the topic, the terms in use, the formal or informal register, and the pronouns people have actually stated.

Speak it back
A natural voice delivers the translation about a second behind the speaker, at a pace that fits the room, so the conversation keeps its rhythm.
Timing is interpreter-style, not instant. VocaTrans usually trails a speaker by a second or two, and a little longer when a thought is long. That delay is what buys a translation that makes sense out loud.
Two ways to run it
A conversation and a sermon don't need the same timing.
Conversation
For two people talking back and forth. VocaTrans translates at short pauses — roughly a second of silence — so replies stay quick and neither person is left waiting.
Sermon & Presentation
For a preacher, a speaker, or anyone holding the floor. Complete thoughts are carried for up to about forty seconds and split at sentence boundaries, so no one is cut off mid-sentence.
Keeping it steady
The translated voice coming out of the speakers is filtered out, so it isn't picked back up and translated again.
Listening continues while the translated voice is speaking — the conversation doesn't pause for playback.
When several translations queue up, playback picks up the pace so nothing is still speaking after the room has moved on.
Human-guided adaptation
You know your words. VocaTrans should too.
Every room has its own vocabulary — a sacrament, a program name, a title, a phrase that has no dictionary equivalent. Correct a term once and the fix applies to the sentences that follow, without restarting the session.
Alongside your corrections, VocaTrans keeps short notes on the conversation in progress — the topic, the people, the terms in play, and how formal people are being with each other — and uses them on the next translations.
It doesn't guess. VocaTrans won't assign a gender to a name, won't read intent into a voice, and when the right level of formality is unclear it defaults to the more formal one. Phone numbers, email addresses and ID numbers are left out of the notes entirely.

Corrections apply to the sentences that follow — no restart needed. Session corrections are ephemeral by default and are cleared when the session ends.
Privacy and verification
We'd rather show the check than make the promise.
Kept in your browser
Conversation notes, corrections and the history panel live in the browser during your session. They are cleared when the session ends, and nothing you say is written to a database.
Verified, not assumed
As part of ongoing security checks, VocaTrans verifies that no prohibited audio or personally identifiable information (PII) is stored in its systems, and monitors protected credentials and service configuration for missing or unsafe settings.
Bookkeeping, not transcripts
For usage and billing we keep what an organization needs to see — minutes used, languages, session counts — not the words that were spoken.
No system can be guaranteed completely secure, and we won't claim otherwise. What we commit to is checking, and telling you what we find.
The best translation isn't the one that converts every word. It's the one that keeps the conversation real.
